Boat Day 2

Our second day on the boat... a beautiful sunny day that left me quite sunburned.

Ahhhh... beautiful

Carpet of flowers

Off you go...

We parked here to get to the bird sanctuary

Pretty flowers

A canal

at the bird sanctuary... the tourist rate was 45 rupees. We only had to pay 5 to get in... That's about 12 cents.

A gecko

at the sanctuary... we saw more "other" wildlife than birds... next time go in the early morning, however, we did see many birds on the lake.

This one's for you Z...

My boyfriend...

He was feeling much better!

Bridge to nowhere...

Sign post

At the point...

We reached the end of the bird sanctuary path and decided to take a canoe instead of walking back.

Our canoe driver

Saying goodbye

after he dropped us off at our boat

Happy Singing Guys!

You could here them for quite a while down river... they were singing and clapping really loudly. It was fun!

Bathtime

Boys playing in the water

Brushing his teeth...

Wow... we could never quite get used to the idea of people bathing and doing laundry in this water, but brushing your teeth takes the cake. Ewwwww!

A lone canoe

Happy Naked Kids...

Cute kid!

Oxymoronic

This scene was very familiar... backwoods living with obvious signs of technology in your backyard.

We stopped at a village

to see a 500 year old house... this path took us there.

Cock-a-doodle-doo!

Me and my sunburn...

Playing with his tire

Welcome

to the Chavara House... This guy was born in 1805 and became a St. with the Catholic Church. Check out the placque for dates and events

The house

where he was born

The dates and facts

A confessional

Doing laundry...

I probably saw more than 100 women doing laundry and still it continued to fascinate me

A Kingfisher

We saw dozens of these beautiful birds, but this picture was my favorite

More laundry

They'd get the clothes wet, soap them up and beat them on that rock, dunk them, beat them, dunk them, beat them. I guess it's not so bad if you only have 2 or 3 outfits.

Rice fields

Most of the fields we saw were below the water level of the river. It was quite odd.

More rice...

Mother & son

And again...

The orange church

We didn't stop, so I'm not sure of it's significance other than it's color.

Love the palm trees

The prawn guy...

Our dinner

Snake boat sign

The Snake Boat

This thing fits 120 people. They race these things every year around Alleppey. Supposedly it's a big deal.

Washing the pot

Water flowers

Hmmmm.

Where are we?

Taking off...

Chopping leaves

For what? No idea.
