Boat Day 3

Building kettuvaloms

I think it's full...

Oops...

maybe a little too full...

Community bonding

Cow in S. India

All the cows we saw here were "owned" by someone. They were either fenced in or had a rope around there net. I guess with 20% of the population being Christian, if it's not tied down, it's dinner!

So cute

Doing dishes...

are adding protein to your diet, or a new weight loss program... you choose.

Lunch time

A Buddha statue

from the 1800s

Yep, we were there too

I sure love Indian kids...

90% of all the kids we saw said "1 pen?" I guess there is a shortage of writing implements here.

Beautiful girls...

This pond

had a thick layer of sletch or scum or whatever you wanted to call it. The pond sat in front of a Hindu temple and we saw several people, including a very young little girl come and "drink" or swish the water in their mouth! YUCK!

Widely cast fishing nets

The next several pictures are sequence shots of the local fishing operation. This net was widely cast by guys in canoes and the guys on shore pulled the nets in. It looked quite heavy.

Heave... Ho!

Or you could try it this way...

Having fun...

Herding ducks?

Serious! We saw this several times. Obviously these ducks had their wings clipped and couldn't fly. These guys would literally herd them down the river. It was really strange to see.

A large herd of ducks...

Technically it's a flock, but since they can't fly, it just doesn't sound right.

Ingenuity

Umbrella hats...

A sleepy canal

We stopped

here at the memorial to some Indian poet dude... they had a library here (with no books) and a school.

The poet dude...

The school room

Love this one...

Cow and bird

Adorable

We stopped to walk through another town on our way to the beach

Playing cricket...

Way too cute

They put the black spot on their head and eyes to ward off the evil eye from their adorable children.

Beach cricket...

Fishing...

in the fresh water, where it meets the Arabian Sea.

Casting nets

Pretending...

to do Yoga at the beach

Me at the Sea...

Day 3 on the boat is over...
