Boat Day 4

The Morning Bustle

On many of the lakes, the big boats had to be off the water (tied up) so they didn't interfere with the local fishing industry.

Coconut Fiber

This pile is what becomes the rope that held our boat together.

She totally put us to shame...

My turn...

I wanted to try it myself. It was awesome and one of the highlights of the trip. My "skills" had everyone laughing.

I was surprised at how the fibers grabbed each other and how difficult it was to get it the right width.

I couldn't manage...

one strand, but these women were making two ropes at a time.

Our happy group...

It's universal!

This kid was using a stick to make "roadways" in the sand and was making truck or boat noises.

Pearlspot fishing...

There is a net under the water, and they use it and the sticks to "scare" the fish which bury their heads in the silt at the bottom. The fisherman then dive down, grab them by their tails and toss them into the boat.

Building a wall...

These walls kept the lake out of the rice fields.

Water pump

This water pump, pumped the water out of the rice fields.
